About the Maps – Please Read
Maps are available for Europe. They are rendered on the FOSSGISS Development Server. They are updated frequently (currently Monday, Wednesday, Friday).
Copyrights:
All maptiles are compiled with mkgmap (http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/) using map data from openstreetmap.org. OpenStreetMap data can be used freely under the terms of the http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/ You can use and edit the map data by visiting openstreetmap.org. The maps themselves are distributed under CCBYSA 2.0 by velomap.org. This roughly means you can copy/distribute them as you like, as long as you mention that the data is from Openstreetmap, and the map is created by velomap.org, and also any person to whom you pass on the map, has the same obligations.
-SRTM Contourlines Copyrights
The Contourlines data is provided by Jonathan de Ferranti where available and SRTM3" where no files are provided by www.viewfinderpanoramas.org Compiled also with mkgmap. All Copyrights to the contourdata remains with Jonathan de Ferranti. Note: The maps work best on your Windows PC when using Mapsource 6.16 or later or Basecamp 3 – See here for Installation Guide: tutorials/install/gmaptool-install-maps
Programs to Display the VeloMap.org
For anyone on the good side of earth velomap.org maps are now shown correctly in Qlandkarte_GT version 0.17 or higher. I recommend however at least version 0.18.2 because it runs much faster. QLandkarte_GT is compatible with all big OS (Linux, MacOSx and well Windows too). Linux users can alternatively install Mapsource in WINE.
Mapsource – I currenlty recommend to use 6.16.x (once it will be available). Mapsource versions 6.14 to 6.15.6 are complete junk, if you use them, please update. Mapsource 6.13.6 is running fine, but does not display contourlines, and autorouting is worse compared to Mapsource 6.16 or Basecamp 3.
Mac OSx users please use Qlandkarte GT (no map conversion needed) or convert maps and use Basecamp 3 or Roadtrip: convert-maps-for-mac-os-x-roadtrip/
Problems – Help – Tutorials
A Beginners Guide can be found here: get started with VeloMaps
Install Mapsource: tutorials/install-mapsource/
To install the maps, first unzip the download and then run VeloMap_country_setup.exe.
Alternate batchfiles (.bat) from openmtbmaps are not yet fully compatible with the Velomaps. I will update them soon.
Alternative: use create_mapsource_installationfiles.bat to create new installationfiles.
Alternative: Install maps with gmaptool: tutorials/install/gmaptool-install-maps/
Discouraged Alternative: Install maps with Mapsettoolkit: tutorials/install/installation-with-mapsettoolkit/
Send Maps to GPS with Mapsource: tutorials/send-maps-to-your-gps/mapsource/
I recommend to allways send maps to an external data card and not internamal memory. (this way if something goes wrong, or maps would be damaged you run less danger of wrecking your GPS).
Alternative: Use create_gmapsupp.img.bat and place the newly created gmapsupp.img into /garmin folder on your GPS. Address search cannot be included this way.
Send maps to GPS with mkgmap (for Unix users): tutorials/send-maps-to-your-gps/mkgmap/
You can also send maps to your GPS with QlandkarteGT
Mapsource Error / debug Mapsource: There is a problem with the MapSource registry. Please re-install Mapsoures and start again Solve with Mapsource Fix Or with Mapset Toolkit

Current Issues
- If sending maps to GPS with Mapsource fails, run unregister_or_reregister_address_search.bat to unregister the address search index from Mapsource (will be available soon).
- Note that currently searching for streets in Cities with a UMLAUT (ö, Ä, Ü…) in their name will not work (bug in mkgmap). Therefore I don't include Umlauts.
- The address search does not yet work as good on the GPS as in Mapsource (nor does it work in Basecamp). This will hopefully sometimes in future be corrected.
- General: Autorouting over (very) long distances on GPS works only with Via Points. If you plan your routes on a PC solve this issue with WinGDB: plan-routes-efficiently
- Autorouting needs attributes like tracktype, lanes, routes, smoothness, class:bicycle and others to work well. So keep care to enter those details into OSM. (not all are needed, but enough for me to guesstimate wheter a street is cyclefriendly/mtbriendly or not).
- Non Connected ways and overlapping ways without node, this is the main problem and a problem of the underlaying map data – please check here: http://keepright.ipax.at/report_map.php
Only check/enable: "allmost Junctions" , "intersections without junctions" as well as "overlapping ways". This helps you to quickly spot the erros. You can then follow the link to Potlatch (or also JOSM is integrated for JOSM users) and quickly correct mistakes!
Watch out not to connect ways that are not connected in reality (i.e. a way crosses another on a brigde, here no connecting node is the right solution).
- If you use Windows 2000 you need to install the "reg" command : Reg cmd at Microsoft if you want to run the batchfiles (.bat files). The Batches are incompatible to earlier Windows versions.
Notice on Updating Maps
Just run the velomap_country_setup.exe again. There will be a quicker solution for tech savy users soon.
Maps
Note the maps are to be considered as release candidate, they run fine but during the next few days some major changes can still be expected.
last map update: please look at at ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/download.openstreetmap.de/aio/velomap/ . Contourlines (height lines) are available as seperate downloads – please scroll down to: contourlines. To unpack the contourlines you need 7zip or Winrar (no the downloads are not broken).
Note the maps are first available on http://dev.openstreetmap.de/aio/velomap/ and are mirrored to the server by gwdg.de du to the high server load on the main server. It may be that the linked downloads on the mirror are 1 or 2 day behinds the main server. I would nevertheless ask you to download from the mirror. Especially please don't download maps for Europe or Germany from the main server.
Maps are available for Mapsource / Qlandkarte GT or as gmapsupp.img.
Mapsource Installer / Qlandkarte GT format
To install unzip and run "VeloMap_country_setup.exe", Qlandkarte GT users only need to unpack and open the map via Qlandkarte GT (choose .tdb and osmmap*.img).
Note 1: older GPS (non touchscreen) run slower the more maps are inside memory. For 60CSx or Vista/Legend HCx I recommend to not use more than 2 GB of maps, else your GPS gets slow.
Note 2: Address Search works well in Mapsource (except for "Europe" download), does not work in Basecamp, and only works on "old generation" GPS (e.g. Vista HCx).

- Europa — (Attention over 2.4 GB, may require firmware update of GPS if sent complete, or not be compatible at all – Please don't download on every update). You might need to run this batch file with admin rights, to delete the address search index, as it will crash Mapsource (Todo Download to disable address search). There may be more error and I do not support it. Europe as a whole is for experts only, that know how to deal with Mapsource problems. Do not post comments about this map not working. That's why I removed the link – you can find it on the server however.
Most popular Federal States of Germany (note besides the area covered all maps are identical – direct link):
Gmapsupp.img format – Unzip to GPS (micro)SD:
Simpy unzip them and put them into the "/Garmin/" folder on your GPS or memory card. Note that Europe is over 2GB and might need uptodate Firmware. On non touchscreen GPS I recomment to not use the Europe file, because the GPS will run slow then (as a rule of thumb, the more map data is on your GPS, the slower it works).
Note no address search possible on gmapsupp.img downloads
You can find all Gmapsupp.img here: ftp://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/misc/openstreetmap/download.openstreetmap.de/aio/velomap/gps_ready/

Contourlines
Please note, at the boundaries there might be some artefacts. I cannot change this currently. The interval of the contourlines is 20m. Note DEM creation is not yet possible. Where Available I have used DEM data from viewfinderpanoramas.org. This data is of much higher quality than other DEM sources, however I cannot publish this data under CCBYSA 2.0 – therefore the copyright of the contourline data remains with viewfinderpanoramas.org and I cannot include this data into the normal map downloads. See the quality differences here: www.viewfinderpanoramas.org/
Contourlines show together with the maps in Basecamp 3 or on all GPS, not Mapsource currently.
For installation/integration please read here: http://www.velomap.org/tutorials/openmtbmaps-contourlines/
Updated on 27.05 to solve eventual autorouting problems caused when integrating the contourlines to the normal maps.

Feedback
Please comment if you like theese maps or even better tell other people about them (forums, blog about it, twitter, etc…) In case maps break Mapsource or don't work – please write exactly which downloads don't work and the time of download as well as your OS and Mapsource version.. Please note, I will delete your comment without notice if it is explained here http://velomap.org/download/#problems-help-tutorials or in the FAQ
Please don't comment about a download link not working but instead resort to the server directly. Comments concerning this will be deleted (except whole Server/Mirror down).

Congratulation for that site! Everything works perfect!
Thank you.
Ściągnąłem mapę Włoch i działa pod MapSource bez problemu.
The velomaps look like a very nice initiative for “roadcyclists”. Great if you can adjust the map where it’s wrong and get the updates in your gps. Is there any chance of an update in the near future?
Look FAQ, since broken update solved, three times weekly
It _is_ updated, very good! The new stuff is in.
Also erst mal ganz herzlichen Dank für Eure tolle Arbeit. Riesen Kompliment.
Mache ich was falsch??
Auf jeden Fall WEITER SO!!!!!
Gruss,
Matthias
Routing einwandfrei. Weiter so, super Projekt!
velomap_united_kingdom.img.zip – doesn’t exist – ‘resource unavailable’
Thanks
best wishes,
Richard
http://www.velomap.org/download/comment-page-2/#comment-333
musste den ProductCode aber auf “0″ setzen!
Ähnliche Probleme gibt es bei der OSM_AIO:
http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?pid=95888#p95888
Download: http://www.dateihosting.de/file/details/156965/Screenshots.zip
Warnung:550 Failed to change directory.
Was ist zu tun?
MfG
R.K.
I don’t know the reason for the wrong link, but if you try this one you should be all right:

Hallo,
super Karten, werde mich gleich damit auf’s Rad schwingen:-)

muss heißen (ohne .7z)

Daniel
ISA Server: Erweiterte Fehlermeldung :
200 Switching to Binary mode.
200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV.
550 Failed to open file.
