Hmm, I’ve never heard about a problem with Garmin connect, but then I never personally used it for sending routes. I will check out myself and see if I can notice anything about what garmin connect does to those routes. Basecamp just moves them to the newfiles directory.

I think the important thing is to not use Garmin Connect. Sorry if it’s obvious, I’m coming from a much older device that doesn’t use Garmin Connect.

Exporting the routes from QMapShack as .gpx and then loading them into the GARMIN/NewFiles directory gives me routable courses.

If I go QMS -> Garmin Connect -> Sync Watch, route calculation using the VeloMap takes too long.

Happy with this as I don’t need Garmin Connect.

Hmm, maybe try to remove those other routable maps by renaming to .img.bak. Otherwise I’m not sure – on Fenix 7x Pro it works quite okay, if the strethces aren’t too long between route points.

A question about routing on newer Garmin devices.

I can’t get routing to work well at all on a Fenix 8. It takes *so* long to calculate even a very short route. But the exact same route on the exact same VeloMap works great on my Montana 600.

Clearly navigation on the watch is very different as there is no way to create routes from waypoints (only “courses”).

I think I have the included topo maps disabled (hard to be certain), and popularity routing and minimise ascent disabled.

Do you have any tips to get it to work?

I know this is a Garmin thing not a VeloMap thing but I thought you would probably know more than what is on the Garmin site.

Vielen Dank, das klappt jetzt. Ich gebe Dir recht, dass das Tagging auf solchen Stecken geändert werden müsste. Denn ich habe real noch nie ein längeres Stück gesehen, wo ein Radweg lang ging und ich hätte schieben müssen.

Super vielen Dank – ich habe den Fehler gefunden. Ich habe nicht überprüft ob highway=pedestrian Teil einer Fahrradroute oder MTB Route ist beim setzen der Tags zum verbieten der Nutzung des Weges. Ich update grad alle Karten neu – wird in 24-36h für die Deutschlandkarte (Version 27.11 oder 28.11) aktualisiert sein. Ich denke es macht Sinn die sonst per default in der VeloMap auszunehmen – da in Deutschland pedestrian wenn kein bicycle Tag vorhanden ist laut Tagging Richtlinien verboten ist für Fahrrad (im Prinzip ist es hier also ein Tagging Fehler – das dort eine Fahrrad route entlang geht, kann ja auch bedeuten absteigen nötig. Ein bicycle=yes wäre angebracht (ich halte mich hier in der VeloMap an die Richtlinien je nach Land laut OSM Wiki – und für Deutshcland ist per default eben verboten=absteigen.

Soweit ich sehe, ist der Weg als “pdstrn”, aber nicht als “xbk pdstrn” gekennzeichnet.

Die Hofdamenallee im Schlosspark Ludwigslust. Da führen der Mecklenburgische Seenradweg und der Residenzstädte-Radweg lang.

Ich habe aber im Zuge dessen bzw auch schon vorher ein Problem beim Routing in Basecamp gefunden – und das Routing diesbezügich etwas angepasst. Aber das betraf nicht pdstrn mit Fahrradrouten oder MTB Routen (sehr wohl aber ohne – allerdings auch nur im Modus Fußgänger/wandern)

Hmm, sehr komisch – kannst du mir mal einen OSM Permalink zu so einem Stück antworten. Eigentlich dürfte das nicht sein (außer es hat Fahrradverbot mit xbk pdstrn bezeichnet)
