Hi there Felix, After about a three year gap due to illness we are off cycle touring again. I am wanting to load maps onto a new Etrex 32x (Europe and France) and update the same maps on my PC.
Please can you tell me the status of my membership – valid or expired? and eligble for premium or not.

Am besten ist du nutzt Basecamp via WineHD. Qmapshack verlangt nach den gmapsupp.img Dateien – nicht den windows .img. (entpacken geht von allen Karten unter 2GB – exe die größe sind haben daher noch die extra Linux .7z zum entpacken zusätzlich dahinter verlinkt auf der Downloadseite – etwa DE oder F.

In den letzten Jahren habe ich velomap erfolgreich unter Windows und MacOS genutzt. Nun läuft bei mir der erste Rechner mit Linux (Mint) und ich würde gern meine Routenplanung darauf machen. In den Anleitungen hier lese ich, dass ich unter Linux die heruntergeladene .exe einer Karte entpacken soll. Dabei kommt aber leider nichts brauchbares raus. Ich möchte die Karten gern mit “QMapShack” nutzen
Hat jemand eine verständliche Anleitung für mich? 🙂 Ich bin nicht sehr sicher auf der Terminal-Ebene, daher wäre mir eine Lösung auf der GUI lieber 🙂

In reply to nztraveler. I'm not sure of what thick black line you are talking. Maybe Garmin botched the firmware of the etrex 30x/22x like they did on the Garmin edge 1040/1050? In that case which layout are you using? The thin layout I did not adapt for that bug. The wide/wide legacy layout is adapted and should not show those black lines. Can you show me a screenshot or picture how it looks? Can you upgrade the firmware and see if it still happens? It was fixed about half a year ago by Garmin for the edge devices.

Thank you for your hard work developing this.

But, in the spirit of constructive feedback so you can improve your premium maps, I want to explain to you why I won’t be renewing my membership. It is for a simple reason that maybe easy for you to fix.

I tried Velo Maps for 6 months on my Garmin eTrex 30X and eTrex 22x. Every time I rode on secondary roads in rural areas, the roads were a thick black lines on my GPS screen. Unfortunately, I could not tell the difference between my magenta route line and your thick black line for the secondary roads on the screen. As result I was constantly making wrong turns and going the wrong way because I could not see my route. I spent hours trying to brighten my screen in the settings or try different outside lighting situations.. to no avail.

The results were the same.. always making wrong turns.. I COULD NOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THICK BLACK SECONDARY ROAD AND MY THICK MAGENTA ROUTE LINE on my gps screen..

Can you change the secondary roads to a thinner lighter line on your maps? I don’t have this same problem with openfietslite , BBBikes and Garmin OSM formats.

Hallo Peter,

leider kam deine Warnung zu spät.
Ich hab da auch schon im Garminforum nachgefragt. Anscheinend gibt es schon neuere VeloMapkarten, die das wieder hinbekommen.
Bei der von mir genutzen Europakarte ist leider noch alt.

Kannst Du mir sagen wo Du die alte FW herbekommen hast und wie das Downgrade funktioniert?

Deinen Tip werde ich das nächste mal befolgen.

Kurze Warnung vor dem neuesten FW-Update 29.16 vom 25.5.2014 für GARMIN EDGE 1040.
Danach war die Kartendarstellung der VeloMaps völlig unbrauchbar.
Den Verkehrsstrassen wurden beidseitig dicke schwarze Ränder angefügt, die alles verdeckten.
Trickreich bin ich jetzt auf FW19.22 zurückgegeangen.
Ich suche noch im Netz nach der letzten guten FW20.19 vom 14.3.24.

Tip: VOR dem Installieren einer GARMIN FW immer erst das GUPDATE.GCD File aus dem Garmin-Ordner zur in einem Ordner oberhalb des Garmin-Ordners sichern, um so bei einem fehlerhaften Update eine Backup-Version zu haben, die man in den Garmin-Ordner kopieren kann.

Thank you for responding and sadly thats a shame… Our son needed jujst the building overlay for a school geography project… If you know of a free source for a similar building overlay could you let me know…
