Get The Contourlines
You have to download the contourlines seperately – they are to be found below the normal maps. Get them here http://openmtbmap.org/download/#contourlines
You have several possibilities to use them:
a) install them as transparent contourline maps only: Get the maps, unpack them to any folder and run one of the batches you can download from here: velomap_contourline installation_scripts.zip
a2) integrate them with the maps Download the contourline maps and extract them into the same folder as the maps that they should be added to (don't place them into a subfolder).
a) Install Contourline Maps in Mapsource/Basecamp
I tried to make this installation as failproof as possible and this means for me to go with gmaptool and gmaptool and mkgmap.
Alternatively (actually better) you don't need maptk, but you have to install JRE 1.6 (JDK 1.6 is of course also possible) and download mkgmap from http://www.mkgmap.org.uk/snapshots/mkgmap-latest.tar.gz
As the author of maptk decided to no more compile overview maps (as of version 2.7.3) I will change the batchfiles to use cgpsmapper – but I recommend using create_mapsource_installationfiles_with_mkgmap instead!
a1) If you only want to have a seperate transparent contourline map in Mapsource/Basecamp
Extract the contourline map download into an empty folder, and run create_mapsource_contourline_installationfiles.bat or create_mapsource_contourline_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat
Then run the newly created install*.bat
a2) If you want to have the contourlines added to normal maps
Add the 7*.img from the contourline download, to your normal map folder, and run create_mapsource_velomap_installationfiles.bat or run create_mapsource_velomap_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat (by using the mkgmap batch, a new address index is generated). Note mkgmap has to be the "latest" version (if mkgmap.jar is older than the version used to create the velomaps, than it may fail).
Note that only Basecamp version 3 (or later) will show the contourlines on top of the normal maps (as well as all GPS). Mapsource does not show contourlines – but they are sent to GPS nevertheless.
You can throw together as many contourline maps and normal maps into the folder as you like. They will all be munged into a new map. (make sure not to install two maps with the same FID, use mapsettoolkit to check if in doubt).
Attention: if you use the batchfiles "with_mkgmap.bat", you need to have at least as much available RAM as the size of the maps (select all 6*.img and 7*.img). On 32bit systems there is furthermore a barrier of about 1100MB of maps. Else it may fail, or you might need to wait a very long time (could be hours) for completion. (to know how big the maps are, simply select all 6*.img and 7*.img and look at their size).
b) Sending only the contourlines as a transparent map to GPS
Extract the contourline maps (7*.img) into an empty folder
Doubleclick on "create_contourline_gmapsupp.img.bat"
This creates a gmapsupp.img which you can directly put onto the \garmin folder on your gps or \garmin folder on your memory card.
The resulting maps are transparent and if active will allways show on top of all other maps.
For most people with outdoor garmin GPS (except Oregon, Dakota, Colorado and future units who can simply rename gmapsupp.img to e.g. contourat.img as the units not only read gmapsupp.img)
you probabely want to merge that gmapsupp.img with other maps. Read gmaptool documentation on how to do that. I will not help you on that.
c) Sending Contourlines and maps to the GPS
Simply put the openmtbmap maps AND contourliens of your choice into a folder, and doubleclick on create_gmapsupp.img.bat (use the create_gmapsupp.img.bat from the normal map folder, the old batch from the contourlines will not work correctly)
This creates a gmapsupp.img that can be directly placed onto the external data card of your GPS or in the internal memory in the /garmin folder and off you go. Some newer units like Oregon or Dakota with newest firmware can even use any gmapsupp.img be it named gmapsupp.img or openmtb.img so for updating your maps you have more choice.
super, dass bei den openmtbmaps die Höhenlinien jetzt im Installer integriert sind. Doch leider funktioniert jetzt das Höhenprofile beim Routing nicht mehr. Getestet habe ich:
openmtbmap_belgium_20.01.2012, openmtbmap_germany_20.01.2012 und openmtbmap_alps_28.01.2012 unter Mapsource 6.16.3 und Basecamp 3.2.2, von velomap benutze ich nur eine alte Europakarte.
Es wäre super, wenn das genauso wie beim selbst kombinieren funktionieren würde.
ups du hast recht, habe es gerade nochmal kontrolliert. Werde ich korrigieren für das nächste Update. Ist durch einen Typo passiert.
Habe wiederholt probleme mit der create_mapsource_velomap_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat und zwar, weil bei der Frage nach JAVA das Script abbricht. Habe herausgefunden, dass dies an der fehlenden Pfadeinstellung zu java liegt. Habe den Standardinstalltionspfad bei meiner W7-64Bit version (path=C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\)eingetragen und schon gings. Vorschlag an den Administrator: in die Batchdatei eine entsprechende Zeile als standard oder als abfrage eintragen.

Dann ist deine Java Installation kaputt. Java sollte immer im Windows Path eingetragen sein. Dann reicht “java” sonst gibts nur Probleme…

ich habe aus den Kartendaten vom 25.03. mit create_mapsource_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat eine Karte mit Höhenlinien erzeugt. In Basecamp 3.1.3 werden diese auch angezeigt. In meinem Vista Cx leider nicht. Hat jemand eine Idee?

Dann hast du sie nicht übertragen. Du musst immer mit ziehen, und nicht mit klicken die Kacheln auswählen!!! (ist auch an mehreren Stellen hier beschrieben!)
Wie funktioniert ddas Kombinieren der Velomap mit den Höhenlinien auf MAC OSX?
Ganz einfach du installierst die Linux oder machst es halt manuell mit mkgmap oder gmt.

Werd den Link bald mal ändern. Den Server gibt es nicht mehr. Aber mit den neuen Karten ab Morgen/Übermorgen dürften sie auch nicht mehr funktionieren. Werd noch ein paar Tage brauchen die wieder zu adaptieren.

ich versuch bis jetzt erfolglos die Hoehenlinien in die Karten zu integrieren.
Hier mein Vorgehen:
1.) Ich habe die gewünschten Länder (DE;CH;AU;FR;BENELUX) heruntergeladen und die .img files in einen ordner gepackt, zusätzlich von einer Karte das .typ file
2.)dazu hab ich die Contourline .img files aller länder gepackt
3.) die aktuellste mgmap datei dazu
4.) aus dem skript ordner das gmt file und das batch-skript “create_mapsource_installationfiles_with_mkgmap”
Dann hab ich das Skript gestartet, es läuft auch durch, und dann habe ich die Karte in Mapsource registriert und sie funktioniert dort auch.
Das Problem tritt auf wenn ich die Karte an meinen Edge 705 übertragen will, sobald ich mit dem Auswahltool eine Kachel anwähle stürzt MapSource mit einer Fehlermeldung ab.
Woran kann das liegen?

Ist es das neuste mgkmap-index oder die Standard “trunk” Version? Die Index Version produziert derzeit sehr häufig kaputte Adressindexes, welche sich nicht mit Mapsource übertragen lassen. Alternativ in der Registry den Addressindex (_mdr.img und mdx) löschen. Bzw die cgpsmapper Version benutzen, da die sowieso keinen Addressindex erstellen kann.

Habe leider das gleiche Problem wie Susanne.
Versuche die velomapgermany mit Höhenlinien zu versehen.
Alles dazu runtergeladen. Alles ins selbe Verzeichnis. Aktuellste Java-Version.
GMT.EXE und batch-files stammen aus der velomapgermany.
Trotzdem Fehlermeldung: “Invalid option: ‘Tbd-file’
Weiß jemand Rat?
Liegt an einer zu neuen (fuer das Skript) mkgmap Version. Ich werde naechste Woche die Skripts updaten.
Alternativ mkgmap Version zwischen 1600 und 1700 benutzen. Bzw das batch mit editor oeffnen und “–tdb-file” loeschen.

ich versuche Velomap France mit Hoehenlinien France in Mapsource zu installieren. Bin im Pkt a2 deiner Anleitung.
velomap, srtm files sind entpackt im gleichen Verzeichnis, mkgmap.jar und gmt.exe auch.
bei start von:”create_mapsource_installationfiles_with_mkgmap.bat” erscheint:
“Invalid option: ‘Tbd-file’.
It seems java is installed but not working correctly. Please check version…”
installierte Version ist java version 1.6.0_21
“If version indicated is 1.6.0_18 or later, please drop me a comment”
Hier ist der comment.
Idee was das Problem ist? und wie man’s behebt?

die create_gmapsupp.img.bat liegt der NRW Karte leider nicht bei
1. Habe eben die Höhenlinien installiert. Leider werden diese in Mapsource (6.16.1) ab einem Maßstab > 500m nicht mehr angezeigt.
2. Ist es geplant, die Höhenlinien per default in die Velomap zu integrieren? Dies würde ich auf jeden Fall honorieren.
Anonsten eine super Karte.
Das Problem hab ich mit Mapsource 6.16.1 auch, allerdings gibt es mit BaseCamp 3.0 keine Probleme.
Ich nutze Mapsource unter Ubuntu in der Virtualbox. Mapsource ist da besser geeignet, da resourcenschonender.
Gerade ist mir noch ein anderer Fehler aufgefallen. Will ich in der Karte mit Höhendaten Teile zur Übertragung auf das GPS auswählen, stürzt Mapsource ab, mit dem Hinweis einen Fehlerreport an Garmin zu senden, was ich unterbunden habe.
Aktuelle Höhendaten, oder die alten?

Habe testweise nochmals Basecamp installiert. Wie schon erwähnt, werden die Höhendaten angezeigt. Beim Versuch Kartenteile zur Übertragung ans GPS auszuwählen stürzt Basecamp ebenso wie Mapsource ab.

Versuch mal die mdr Datei zu deregistrieren. Evtl funktioniert es dann. Mir hört sich dass so an, als hättest du veraltete tdb/mdr. Evtl Karten geupdated aber vergessen neues tdb/mdr zu erstellen?
Unter Windows selbst gibt es keine Probleme, weder mit Basecamp noch Mapsource.
Nein, geht nicht wegen der Lizenz. Und lieber gscheite Höhendaten außerhalb, als SRTM Schwachsinn wie überall anders.

Where can I get the mapsource 6.16 (not the beta) I have combined th map with the contourlines…. they show (sometimes) (not correct) in the mapsource 6.16 beta or in the 6.15.11, but not at all on my oregon 450. mapdetails are on max. So, what now?
